Creating a Holiday Home Guests Never Want to Leave

Whether you're designing, a Welsh holiday home, or a luxury coastal retreat anywhere in the UK, creating a memorable guest experience is key to standing out in the competitive market. Although the beautiful interiors are important to create a successful holiday, thoughtful design, comfort and practical feature all need to be combined.

As an interior designer, our focus is on creating spaces that feel welcoming, functional and unique, helping holiday property owners maximise guest satisfaction, positive reviews and repeat bookings.

Create a Welcoming First Impression

From the minute guests arrive at the property, they start to form opinions about their stay. Therefore, it is important to carefully consider the entrance of the property. A beautifully styled entrance, warm lighting and fresh flowers can immediately create a sense of comfort and luxury, whilst storage for coats and shoes make the guests settle in with ease.

For example, styling a Cornwall holiday home may include coastal-inspired textures and natural materials. While, a Welsh holiday home might incorporate local artwork or design elements inspired by the surrounding landscape.

In this entrance hall, we created a welcoming seating area beneath the staircase, providing guests with a comfortable place to pause, remove shoes or simply take in the space upon arrival.

Comfortable Bedrooms Are Essential

A great night's sleep is one of the most important factors in any successful holiday let. For holiday home bedrooms invest in high-quality mattresses, luxurious bedding, blackout curtains and layered lighting can significantly enhance the guest experience.

We add comfortable beds and high-quality white bedding to every holiday home. They create a clean, fresh and welcoming environment while giving guests the boutique hotel experience they look for.

Fully Stocked Bookshelves and Reading Corners

One of the easiest ways to make a holiday home feel unique is through a carefully curated bookshelf. Guests appreciate having access to books, as these get aways are a chance to unwind from day to day life. Give guests a chance to read or unwind in a dedicated space, add a comfortable armchair, side table, reading lamp and soft throw to create a cosy retreat within the home.

Positioning a reading nook near a window with countryside, coastal or mountain views can become one of the most loved features of a holiday property.

Include Games and Entertainment

Guests book holiday homes to socialise and spend time with family, adding board games are a simple addition that can create lasting memories. We suggest stocking a selection suitable for both adults and children, including puzzles, playing cards and quiz games. These details are especially appreciated during evenings or rainy days.

If you have space, a games room can become a major selling point, something unique that makes your house stand out. Something such as a pool table, table football or arcade games. These will provide entertainment for guests of all ages and encourage longer stays.

In this holiday home, we added a shuffle board table. It helps to create an easy focal point for guests to gather and encourages interaction without feeling overly formal or intrusive within the design.

Design Comfortable Social Spaces

Holiday homes are often places for gathering with family and friends. Large, comfortable sofas and generous seating arrangements allow guests to spend time together. By layering cushions, throws and fabrics you can create a welcoming and cosy atmosphere.

If you have space, a smaller, cosier room leading from the main living space helps to create a more layered and sociable layout. Adding a room like a bar adds a unique touch to the home. These intimate breakout spaces encourage guests to move more freely between areas and offers options to gather in larger groups or retreat to quieter corners.

We design the dining room as a central social hub. By adding one large table it encourages everyone to gather together for meals and creates a shared, communal experience where guests can connect and talk. Make sure that the layout prioritises comfort and flow, to do this ensure that there is ample space around the table so the room feels open and inviting rather than crowded.

In this Welsh holiday home, we introduced a large dining table designed to seat up to 10 guests, creating a central space for shared meals. Alongside the kitchen, we added comfortable seating so guests can stay together in one open-plan space, allowing for socialising and conversation even while others are cooking.

Design the Kitchen for Entertaining

Holiday guests increasingly expect more than a basic kitchen. The kitchen design needs to feel both practical and welcoming. Alongside the main cooking and dining functions, we carefully consider the smaller details that elevate the guest experience. When finishing a design, we ensure that the space is fully equipped with everyday essentials such as a kettle, toaster, tea, coffee and other thoughtful provisions. As a result guests can arrive to a kitchen that feels immediately usable, comfortable and complete.

Here is an example of one of our kitchen designs from a holiday home in Cornwall.
